Description
JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) is an independent, non-profit, and nonpartisan human rights organization registered in France (No. W931027714) under the Association Law of 1901. The organization is dedicated to defending human rights, promoting justice, and empowering marginalized communities in Bangladesh and beyond, with a particular focus on LGBTQI+ individuals and other vulnerable minority groups.
Overall Objective
The overall objective of JMBF is to advance the protection, promotion, education, and realization of human rights, with a strong emphasis on safeguarding the civil, political, social, and cultural rights of LGBTQI+ persons and other marginalized communities, regardless of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, caste, race, or religion.
Core Aims
JMBF aims to:
Defend LGBTQI+ rights by combating all forms of discrimination, violence, criminalization, and impunity targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and other gender-diverse individuals in Bangladesh.
Protect marginalized minorities, including ethnic-Indigenous, religious (Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Ahmadiyya), and socially excluded groups such as Dalits, with particular attention to those facing intersecting vulnerabilities with LGBTQI+ identity.
Combat serious human rights violations, including torture, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and gender- or sexuality-based violence, ensuring justice and protection for victims, especially women, children, and LGBTQI+ persons.
Support at-risk human rights defenders, including LGBTQI+ activists, lawyers, journalists, bloggers, artists, and civil society actors who face threats due to their work on human rights issues.
Facilitate access to protection and services for LGBTQI+ asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants of Bangladeshi origin living in France, ensuring they receive appropriate legal, social, and psychological support.
Specific Objectives
JMBF is committed to:
Promoting international human rights standards, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and European human rights frameworks, with a focus on LGBTQI+ inclusion and protection in Bangladesh.
Advancing truth, justice, and accountability for serious human rights violations against LGBTQI+ individuals and other minority groups through legal advocacy and international engagement.
Providing comprehensive support to victims, including physical safety, legal assistance, psychosocial care, and pathways for social and economic reintegration, particularly for LGBTQI+ survivors of violence and persecution.
Enhancing awareness and education on LGBTQI+ rights and broader human rights principles among local stakeholders, professionals, and communities to prevent discrimination and violence.
Strengthening grassroots human rights networks, including LGBTQI+ defenders and community-based organizations, to ensure sustainable protection mechanisms within Bangladesh.
Conducting research, advocacy, and campaigns on LGBTQI+ rights and related human rights issues, influencing policy and public discourse at national and international levels.
Improving access to protection systems in France, by developing referral pathways and disseminating information tailored to LGBTQI+ Bangladeshi asylum seekers and migrants, ensuring inclusive and safe support services.
